It is always a good idea to get pre-approved when you start the home buying process.  Getting pre-approved gives you a clear picture of what you can afford, what your monthly payment will be, and lets the seller know you are a qualified buyer.  Shopping for a mortgage is like shopping for a home, it is probably a good idea to get more than one quote.
